ADR Qualified | Tanker Operations | Environmental Services

Location: Shaftesbury, Dorset
Salary: £17.64 per hour
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday
Flexible working pattern based around a 48-hour week
Overtime: Paid at 1.5x hourly rate

Role Overview:

Are you an experienced HGV Class 1 or Class 2 Driver looking for a role that offers more than simply driving from A to B?
We are recruiting reliable and professional HGV Class 1 & Class 2 Drivers to join a growing environmental services operation based in Shaftesbury.
As an HGV Driver, you will play a vital role in supporting environmental and industrial operations across the region, collecting and transporting hazardous and non-hazardous waste whilst operating specialist vacuum tanker equipment. This is a hands-on role combining driving responsibilities with operational support, offering excellent variety, long-term stability and genuine career progression opportunities.
The successful HGV Class 1 & Class 2 Driver will be safety-focused, customer-oriented and comfortable working within a regulated environment where compliance, professionalism and teamwork are key.

Key Responsibilities:

HGV Driving & Tanker Operations
  • Operate HGV Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles safely and efficiently
  • Operate vacuum tanker vehicles across customer sites
  • Complete scheduled collections and deliveries
  • Manage routes effectively to meet service requirements and deadlines
  • Comply with all transport legislation, ADR requirements and drivers' hours regulations
  • Ensure safe transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials
Vehicle & Equipment Responsibilities
  • Carry out daily vehicle inspections and compliance checks
  • Complete defect reporting and maintenance documentation
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained to a high operational standard
  • Keep vehicles clean, presentable and roadworthy
  • Maintain accurate transport and operational records
Operational & Site Support
  • Support operational teams during loading and unloading activities
  • Assist with environmental and industrial service operations when required
  • Work closely with site teams to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Participate in waste management and environmental service activities
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all company health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Handle hazardous and non-hazardous waste safely and responsibly
  • Work in accordance with ADR and environmental regulations
  • Report defects, incidents, hazards and near misses
  • Promote a positive safety culture at all times
Customer Service
  • Provide a professional service to customers and site personnel
  • Build positive working relationships with clients
  • Act as a positive ambassador for the business
  • Resolve day-to-day operational issues professionally and effectively

Essential Criteria:
  • Minimum 12 months' experience driving HGV Class 1 and/or Class 2 vehicles
  • Valid HGV Licence (Class 1 and/or Class 2)
  • Driver CPC Qualification
  • Digital Tachograph Card
  • ADR Licence
  • Experience operating tanker or vacuum tanker vehicles
  • Strong understanding of transport compliance and driver regulations
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage workload
  • Physically fit and comfortable undertaking manual duties where required
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
