Your Role as an SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you may work in a mainstream school or specialist provision, with the age group and support needs explained before an assignment is agreed.

• Support individuals or small groups with activities planned by teaching staff.
• Reinforce instructions using agreed communication strategies and accessible resources.
• Help pupils follow routines and develop confidence with learning and social interaction.
• Follow individual support plans and share observations about progress or wellbeing.

What We Are Looking For in an SEN Teaching Assistant

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND in education, care or another relevant setting.
• An SEN Teaching Assistant who is reliable, patient and responsive to different learning needs.
• A willingness to follow school guidance and work closely with teaching and support staff.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one, alongside satisfactory safeguarding checks.
